Delightfully Surprised by Sound and Weight..

I bought this Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus recently and was really surprised by its sound and weight. Comparing it to my Les Paul Supreme and my Les Paul Florentine, I found it to weigh about the same as the Supreme, which is cored. The finish is very good, the figuring doesn't quite look like the picture (I bought a "honey burst" that showed about the same figuring. I'd give the figuring an "A" but not an "AA," but the figuring matched. The back is a finished mahogany and very nice, not a solid dark stain like an Les Paul Classic I once had, which weighed probably 8 lbs more.

The sound was very good, not as "lively" as the Supreme or Florentine, but for $2,600.00 less, it shouldn't be. However, when cranked up, it was hardly distinguishable. The action was indistinguishable to me, but I'm a novice of sorts.

If you are looking for a good LP sound at a very affordable price, I wouldn't hesitate getting this. Parents could even afford to give this to see if it brings out the "talent" in their teenager.

I bought mine through Musician's Friend because I know they have a no questions asked return policy. I would suggest you get the hardcase ($59.95) and some better strings (10mm Gibson's is standard for Gibson's LP).

Epiphone Les Paul Special II Left-Handed Electric Guitar, Heritage Cherry Sunburst

Product Description

What's so special about this LP? The super-low price for starters, and that's not all. It's a left-hander. Made with a mahogany and rosewood neck, alder/maple body, smooth 22-fret rosewood fingerboard, dot inlays, and chrome hardware, this baby is every bit as handsome as its uptown cousins. Features 2 humbucking pickups that deliver long, singing sustain and true LP tones.

Product Review

For the money, the Les Paul Special II is quite possibly the most tempting Les Paul ever made for the Left handed guitarist. However, most experienced players are probably wondering... what am I getting into, here, buying one of these budget versions of a classic? Well, for starters, you are getting phenomenal tone, worthy of the Les Paul name. Yes, I have had mine for almost four years now and have played along with other musicians using far more expensive top of the line guitars... and I never fail to get complements on the tones I get out of this instrument. From smooth clean, to heavy distortion, the two humbucking pickups give you tremendous flexibility and perhaps the best Les Paul sound you will ever find for a guitar is this price range.

Those are the pros. Here are the cons: Inexpensive instruments = inexpensive parts. Out of the box, my guitar sounded great and the comfortable low action set up was more then adequate to keep me content. However, with time, this guitar will reveal and keep you reminded that it is an inexpensive guitar. The inside electronics will require maintenance at some point, and possibly an eventual replacement, as they become loose and produce bad static noise with time (I have found I am not the only one with this problem). The machine heads, knobs, and cheap plastic jackplate you also want to eventually replace or upgrade. However, these are relatively inexpensive fixes (plus the warranty covers a lot). If you are willing to accept that this guitar will require some fix ups down the road, with this price I'd say you are still getting quite an amazing instrument. Oh, and did I mention the guitar simply looks awesome?

Despite its cons, this guitar will give you the Les sound without the expected Les price tag. It's not perfect, but you won't be braking the bank here either. For the beginner, or budget minded like myself, there is very much to like about the Les Paul Special II. And for the left-handed player, even more!!!

Epiphone Les Paul Custom Electric Guitar, Ebony

Product Description

The classic "tuxedo" look and world famous features that have made the Les Paul Custom a hit since 1954 are now available in a great price range with the Epiphone Les Paul Custom.

Product Review

I love it, can't get enough of it. I have it hooked up to a line6 and the FVB Express board, I don't think there is a sound that it can't make. It plays easy, I'm used to acoustics Ovation mostly and I love the way they play. When I tried this the first time it was like I had to keep looking to be sure it was my hands that were playing it. Very happy I got it.

One complaint when it came it was lose in the box it fell out of the Epiphone box into the shipping box and strings were broken. They sent me a new set but come on tape the box shut. either they were setting it up and forgot to pack it back right or someone was using it.

Luckily their was no other damage I could see and not other finger prints. It took me a while to calm down but once I did I sunk deep into this guitar. You may lose your wife or girlfriend, fair warning I keep getting up in the middle of the night to try something I dreamed up.

Epiphone Les Paul Ultra-II Electric Guitar, Midnight Ebony

The Les Paul Ultra-II is a truly different hybrid guitar combining a real Les Paul Guitar with a fingerboard-mounted NanoMAG Samarium/Cobalt pickup and electronics to produce shimmering acoustic tones with ultra-wide dynamic range. It is crafted with the same acoustic chambers as those in the regular Les Paul Ultra. Comprehensive NanoMAG controls are discretely incorporated into the back cover.

True Stereo outputs capable of both mono and stereo with a regular cable. The NanoMAG is a magnetic pickup with an air coil and a composition of different samarium cobalt magnets incorporating active electronics in a minimum of space. The pickup is protected by an epoxy layer, and the silver-platinum shielding, together with the active electronics, provides a low impedance, hum free output signal.

The NanoMAG pickup provides an acoustic sound, but can also produce sweet blues and jazz tones. It is very resistant to the feedback and offers incredible dynamics in all positions.Based upon Epiphone s top-selling Les Paul Ultra, the Ultra-II adds a proprietary NanoMAG low-impedance pickup embedded into the fingerboard and custom electronics to create a Les Paul that is not only capable of blistering, electric guitar riffs but also shimmering acoustic-like tones and when combined, greatly expanded frequency range and tonal capabilities.

The goal of the Ultra-II was to create a more versatile guitar that was capable of not only real Les Paul tone, but also acoustic-lik...

Epiphone Les Paul Classic Quilt Top, Transparent Blue

Epiphone has been building quality guitars since 1910 and has based the beautiful Les Paul Classic Quilt Top on one of the most famous guitar designs of all time the Gibson Les Paul. This guitar, authorized by Gibson, has been painstakingly built 100% to their specs. The mahogany neck, mahogany and alder body, and chrome hardware contribute to the incredibly sweet, signature Les Paul tone.

It features a 24-3/4"-scale set neck, 2 open-coil humbucker pickups with a volume and tone control for each, and a 1.68" nut. The fast action, nice sustain, and awesome tone make this highly playable guitar great for any type of music from punk to bluegrass. What really makes this guitar stand out however, is the flawless finish and arched, quilted maple carved top. So striking is the quilt top that Epiphone gives you the option of leaving off the pick guard, so as not to hide any of the finish. You will receive a complete pickguard setup if you want the traditional look or are a heavy-handed player whose guitar needs the protection! The rosewood fretboard, with trapezoid inlays and body and neck binding, tops off this charmer. No other guitar sounds like the famous Les Paul.
